Intelliguard Delivers High Performance Backup and Retrieval for EMC Celerra File Server

BudTool Provides High Performance Local Backup and Restore via NDMP

February 23, 1998 -- Dublin, CA -- Intelliguard Software, a pioneer in standards-based network-attached storage management solutions, today announced the availability of local data backup and retrieval support for EMC Corporation's Celerra File Server. This is the result of an alliance between Intelliguard and enterprise storage leader EMC.

The integration of Intelliguard's BudTool with the EMC Celerra File Server (formerly Symmetrix Network File Storage "SNFS") provides customers with open, scalable, high-performance local backup and retrieval. Local backup and restore significantly increases backup performance by reducing network traffic. BudTool is EMC's recommended solution for NDMP (Network Data Management Protocol)-enabled locally-attached data management for the EMC Celerra File Server.

"BudTool has provided centralized administration and reliable data retrieval, without impacting our performance-optimized EMC Celerra File Server or tying up the network," said Jeff Taylor, Unix Systems Specialist of Thomson Consumer Electronics Inc. of Indianapolis, Indiana. "Because the file server is NDMP-compliant, we can back up and restore to local tape devices, and easily work within our 6 hour nightly backup window. Plus, there is no additional software administration on the Celerra File Server."

The NDMP is embedded in both Intelliguard's BudTool and EMC Celerra's DART (Data Access in Real Time) operating system. This enables two-way communication to control and manage local backup and retrieval operations.

David Hill, Senior Analyst at Aberdeen Group, said "EMC and Intelliguard are two recognized technology leaders and obvious experts in providing innovative storage management solutions. EMC's selection of BudTool continues the trend of enhancing its broad range of storage solutions, by adding reliable, high performance backup and retrieval for the Celerra file server family."

Robert Dutkowskty, EMC's Executive Vice President, Markets and Channels, said, "With the combination of EMC Celerra File Server and BudTool, our customers' ability to manage and protect their growing information repositories is significantly improved. Celerra File Server's support of BudTool demonstrates our strong commitment to open systems standards, such as the Network Data Management Protocol (NDMP)."

George Wilson, President and Chief Executive Officer of Intelliguard Software, said, "EMC and Intelliguard share a commitment to high end, scalable storage solutions in open systems environments. With BudTool support for EMC Celerra File Servers, we fulfill our customers' needs for manageability, performance and reliability in a tightly integrated solution."

About Intelliguard Software
